Strength

Strength training is an integral part of any fitness program. Also known as weigth training, resistance training or weight lifting, strength training is the process of systematically providing the muscles with a greater-than-normal load to build muscular strength and endurance. Increasing your strength will help you to better handle your bike, and endurance training helps prevent fatigue on longer rides.

The Get Fitter...Ride Better program also includes balance training in conjunction with the strength workout. Balance training helps to counteract some of the natural effects of aging. As we age, the body's cells start to lose the ability to feel where they are in space. This is part of what makes older individuals become feeble or unsteady. It is possible to stave off or even reverse this natural occurence with a regular balance training program.
